The National Theatre<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Uzice has had the Theatre since 1945, and the building where it is situated nowadays was erected in 1968. The theatre hall is one of the best in Serbia and can host 560 visitors. The Theatre is situated in the town centre, on the large town square. The contest of the most successful theatre performances from Serbia and Montenegro is held at its stage every year, as a part of the Yugoslav Theatre Festival. The National Theatre from Uzice is the organiser and host of the festival, which takes place every year in the second week of November.<\/p>\n

The Town Gallery of Uzice<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The town gallery of Uzice was founded in 1990.<\/p>\n

The activities of the gallery are displaying the works of modern and contemporary Yugoslav art, as well as organising the exhibitions of foreign authors. The gallery covers the exhibition space of 185 m2, with modern illumination and display equipment.<\/p>\n

The activities of the gallery include a very important international event – The International graphic Biennial ”’Dry point”, of which the gallery is an initiator, founder and organiser. Within the Krakov graphic Triennial it has been classified among the 22 prestigious events in the world and it is represented at the exhibition of Intergraph within the Triennial. The most significant exhibitions held in the gallery have been the Paris autumn salon- the first time in the Balkans, the exhibition of our most famous painters Sava Sumanovic, Dado Djuric, Vladimir Velickovic, Petar Lubarda, Pe\u0111a Milosavljevi\u0107, Nade\u017eda Petrovi\u0107 etc..<\/p>\n

Historical Archives of Uzice is an inter- municipal institution which territorial coverage includes the following municipalities: Uzice, Pozega, Arilje, Bajina Basta, Ivanjica, Kosjeric, Nova Varos, Prijepolje, Priboj and Cajetina. The rooms of the Archives are on the ground floor of the right wing of the City Hall of Uzice.<\/p>\n

The 845 funds of the Archives keep 4125 meters of archived material. The funds are sorted in several groups: government and public services, jurisdiction, educational and cultural institutions, social and medical institutions, commerce and banking, socio-political organizations, societies and associations, religious groups and organizations, personal and family funds.<\/p>\n

The archived material covers the range since the first part of the XIX century up to the year 1978, with the majority of the funds considering newer, period of socialism. The oldest document dates from 1801. The documents are mostly written in Serbian language, but there are also documents in Turkish, Greek, German and French language. The most significant funds are those of the governing administrative districts dating from XIX century, then the fund of The Guilds Association of U\u017eice and the administrative district of Uzice (1840-1950), the First Stock Wavering Workshop (1898-1945), the collection of the church register books, family and personal funds; collections: memoirs, varia, cartographic collection, posters, matrix of the stamps and seals, photographs and the card catalogue of fallen victims 1941-1945.<\/p>\n

Archives library consists of about 15.000 titles (books, brochures, newspapers, magazines) from the fields of History, laws, philosophy, ethnology philology etc.<\/p>\n

The archive is currently working on publishing its own and also the material from other archives considering the history of U\u017eice region. Up to now 50 books have been published and 30 copies of the magazine “Historical Heritage”. In cooperation with the National Museum from U\u017eice it publishes the annual publication Uzicki Zbornik (Collections from Uzice). The beneficiaries of the archives can use the following informational: the register of archived books and documents, summary and analytical inventory, the retrospect of funds and collections and the Guide Through the Archived Funds.<\/p>\n

Story of our library began on 6th of August in the year of 1856 (on the day of Transfiguration of Christ), by founding Readers Club of U\u017eice, which became the centre of our town\u2019s cultural and social life. In 1857, Readers Club had 100 members, 200 books and every daily newspapers issued in the Principality of Serbia. Today, Library is a modern institution with more than 256,000 books and the Internet Club, offering our fellow citizens abundance of information from all walks of life.<\/p>\n

City Cultural Center in Uzice – Gkc<\/strong><\/h2>\n

City cultural center in Uzice was founded on June 8, 2010 for performing activities that will create conditions for the appropriate development of children and youth, but also of the citizens of all generations of Uzice city through organizing and promotion of affirmative cultural, educational, and sport contents.<\/p>\n

In performing its activity GKC provides performing organizational, marketing, administrative, financial, technical, and other operations necessary for realization of set objectives and tasks, necessary for GKC to answer by its activity to expressed needs of the children, youth, and other citizens for quality contents in area of culture, art, and sport and organizes consultations, production, and presentation in these areas.<\/p>\n

Basic activity of GKC is cultural \u2013 educational, cultural \u2013 artistic, publishing activity, the activity of presenting cultural goods, music-stage and film activity, as well as the productions of other cultural, artistic, and educational contents. The GKC building \u2013 has a spacious hall for concerts and performances, a number of rooms for youth activities, a library, a summer stage, a cafe…<\/p>\n
