Kustendorf<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kustendorf is the name of nowadays famous International film and music festival which was first held in 2008 in ethno village Drvengrad, placed in Mokra Gora. Its founder, programme selector and director is the world renowned director Emir Kusturica. The festival is designed to present the most prominent names of contemporary author film, but it is also oriented to the future generations of film creators. Kustendorf includes five programme schemes: Competition programme, Retrospective of Greatness, Contemporary trends, Evergreen, and New Authors. Me\u0107avnik is a town of dreams, a town which has turned an image of utopia into reality. Its cultural scene is like no other, with one festival after another, just like the seasons. The first of these was \u2018Kustendorf\u2019, a film and music festival, where young filmmakers compete and the most eminent actors from the film world visit. No less important is the \u2018Bolshoi\u2019 Music Festival, where young performers of classical music from Serbia and Russia are given the chance to make their mark and develop along with other musicians from all over the world. The cultural life of Me\u0107avnik is enriched yet further with the Autumn Theatre Festival and the Writers\u2019 Festival in May.<\/p>\n

This International children\u2019s pop music festival brings together most eminent composers and children solo musicians from this region of Europe. Apart from having an entertaining character, the lyrics of songs performed here also have educational messages, which link the topics of human rights, anti-racism, ecology, family, school and other child-relevant issues. Not only children from the ex-Yugoslav territories take part in this festival, but also kids from other countries, such as Israel, Canada, Italy, etc.<\/p>\n

The international exhibition Graphic Art Biennial- Dry Point<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The international exhibition Graphic Art Biennial, Dry Point, set in Uzice city art gallery, has become firmly established among 22 prestigious graphic art events in the world when it was presented in the Krakow Triennial of Graphic Arts, in the Triennial exhibition Intergraphics. Since it was first created in 1993, Dry Point Biennial in Uzice has been designed to follow and encourage standard graphic production in dry point technique.<\/p>\n

Yugoslav Theatre Festival

November is the month when the National Theatre in Uzice hosts the Yugoslav Theatre Festival titled \u201cNo Translation\u201d, a review of the best theatrical works from the former Yugoslav territories in the previous season, chosen by festival selectors. Winners in various categories receive the Ardallion award of the festival. The program scheme is broadened with cultural events – exhibitions, literary evenings, meetings with theatre artists, etc.<\/p>\n

Water Jumping Competition

Every year in July the city of Uzice organizes an unofficial federal competition in water jumps off the old rail bridge at the city beach, since 1993. In the newly formed Yugoslavia, after the Bosnian war, the well known water jumps were no longer performed in the city of Mostar. Uzice took over the tradition of organizing competitive leaps off the 16 m high old railway bridge over the river Djetinja. This bridge used to be the old narrow- gauge railway to Sarajevo. This competition is completed in a single day accompanied by great cultural and entertaining program.<\/p>\n

Licider Heart

Licider Heart is an international review of children folklore. Children under 15 from Serbia and neighbouring countries are gathered to participate in a traditional folklore parade. Traditionally, this manifestation represents a wonderful opportunity for their meeting, experience exchanges and making new friendships. The festival consists of numerous activities including open folklore workshops and visit tours to some of the most significant tourist destinations in the region.<\/p>\n

International Colony of Art Ceramics \u201cZlakusa\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This colony is a part of the author project of Sofija Bunardzic, a painter and craftsman in ceramics from the city of U\u017eice. The specific concept of this event is reflected in the subtle way it bridges the art of traditional pottery making and some contemporary tendencies in art ceramics. Using the familiar traditional techniques, present day artists create their works in modern styles. The colony is organized once a year, in August.<\/p>\n

Zestival
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

“Zestival” was held for the first time in 2006 as a fruit brandy festival, with the aim of promoting quality, authentic domestic products and contributing to their visibility and recognition on the global market.<\/p>\n

After a ten-year break, in 2016 the festival was renewed, and since a few years ago it has grown into an international event that affirms nature and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

\u201eZestival\u201c in Uzice brings together producers of traditional products from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, with an emphasis on producers of domestic fruit brandies, which are evaluated by an expert jury and declared the best. During the festival days, business meetings are held (producers of traditional products – hoteliers, restaurateurs), creative workshops and lectures by experts in the field of agriculture, exhibitions of costumes, agricultural equipment and mechanization.<\/p>\n

In addition to promotional and educational content, a rich cultural-educational program takes place within the festival (concerts, literary evenings, etc.), as well as “Bohemian evening” that reminds of U\u017eice legends for whom bohemia became a philosophy, a measuring instrument of value and endurance, closeness and fate and the irresistible charm of the city’s taverns where people sat until dawn and enjoyed conversation and socializing.<\/p>\n

In recent years, “Zestival” has also been in the function of recognizing, preserving and valorizing the material (fortress Old town, the hydropower plant “Pod gradom”, Potpec cave…) and the non-material (Kolo dance (circle dance), Saint Patron’s Day, Clamor singing, Era-style humor, pottery from Zlakusa, Coppersmith craft, etc.) of the cultural heritage of our region.<\/p>\n

The sponsor and organizer of “Zestival” is the city of Uzice with the support of the Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Development Agency, the Agricultural Advisory and Expert Service, the Tourism Organization of the Western Serbia Region, the Tourism Organization of the City of Uzice, as well as the Business Club Western Serbia.<\/p>\n

Children’s ballet festival

In the National Theater in Uzice, the Children’s Ballet Festival has been held every May for years, organized by the Maga Magazinovic Ballet Studio from Uzice, with the support of the city of Uzice.<\/p>\n

The festival is not of a competitive nature, but aims to present artistic creativity for children and youth through classical ballet, contemporary dance, modern ballet, as well as jazz ballet. Also through this Festival, joy and love for the game is nurtured, emphasizing the artistic component of authentic dance expression, aimed at the popularization and development of the artistic game among children aged 3 to 18. Within the Festival, ballet pedagogues, choreographers and directors of ballet studios and ballet schools have the opportunity to exchange ideas, contacts and experiences in the work with children, which contributes to the improvement and development of children’s creativity. The goal of the Festival is the promotion of artistic dance for children, its development and popularization, as well as meetings of ballet pedagogues and choreographers at the international level, where they will exchange valuable experiences in working with children.<\/p>\n

The Bazzum festival has been held since 2022, when it first gathered jazz enthusiasts in the National Theater following the initiative of the “Jazzere” association. It was originally created within the association of jazz lovers (founded in 1993), and is supported by the City of U\u017eice and GKC. From 2024, it entered the program “U\u017eice National Capital of Culture” with increased institutional support. The festival is characterized as quality mainstream jazz, with a mix of local and international performers. The goal is to create an urban, educated audience, but also to educate young people through workshops and lectures.<\/p>\n
