Old Crafts
In the whole area of Mokra Gora as well as whole Zlatibor region, crafts have very long tradition, as many of those craftsmen during history were excellent in their skills although were self educated. As this area is rich in wood, and for people of Mokra Gora “pine is the source of life”, various carpentry crafts dominated, making usable items of everyday life.
People of Mokra Gora were famous for their products of tar, Scots pine and resin. The caravans carrying tar and resin started from Mokra Gora, going to the east, west and south, and by selling these products villagers bought wheat, which was insufficient in this area. In the whole area of Užice, only in this part the traditional way of making tar has been preserved. Besides the old way, tar and Scots pine have been processed in modern industrial way in the village factory Kotroman.
There are even some traditions connected to these products. It was common here that every year on the Holy Ascension Day, that every villager draws a circle and a cross within it on the house near the door. This sign was drawn on the right butt of the cattle. It protected the house of evil demons and the cattle from flies.
