Rural tourism
When you smell the hay, fresh bread and a quince on the cupboard, when the roosters start singing at dawn, and the streams start gurgling, that is the village-the one which belongs to the people, from time immemorial, fruitful, beautiful and hospitable. It is a rest for the soul and enjoyment for the eyes, a break amidst the confusion of everyday life, the everlasting call of tradition and the ancestors. The village presented as the well and the wood cabin, the brandy still and the gate, the life in the centuries long rhythm and order, in the inseparable link of the man and the nature…
Those village households have existed in Uzice region for ages, beautiful and appealing, a cure for the tired and the ones fed up with the grayness of the concrete structures typical of urban life. For centuries a guest has been welcomed with a special attention, hospitality is in the genes of the guests of this region. Whether it is a neighbour who drops by, an unexpected guest or an acquaintance who has come a long way- all the activities are put aside, and all the attention is dedicated to the guest. And the food and drinks which are served include: a glass of brandy, snacks with smoked meat, even full lunch and the overnight stay – all these have been considered quite normal since the earliest times.
Of course, time flies, modern habits replace the old ones, but the villages of Uzice region do not renounce their hospitality. That virtue, which used to be appreciated by those who spent days walking, has been reborn in the tourism of nowadays. The hosts in the villages have arranged their houses and farmsteads, made the households they can be proud of and in which one could enjoy, the edifices and swimming pools, so that all the care for the guest, recorded in their genes, would be directed towards those who prefer village holidays. And everything is done without going into the extremes: unobtrusively, and always at disposal to each guest and his requests.
This was heard of everywhere. It reached the urban quarters and wide boulevards, attracted those tired of the city life who had been dreaming of the picturesque village scenes. They started inquiring about what the villages of Uzice had to offer. They wanted to find out what it was like in the village of the narrow gauge railway, the so called “Cira”, where the powerful prophets of the Tarabic family had made make their prophecies, if it was true that the fabulous Terzica garden really existed as well as the centuries old pottery from Zlakusa, where the wild blueberries grew, (the ones which used to be seen on the dining tables of the king), when the trumpet maestros came from, why the best plum brandies came from Gostionica and Ribasevina, the villages endowed with the gifts of nature…
We can give the answers to these questions here. That is the way we can help the inquisitive prospective guest, our tributes to the hard-working hosts of the whole region and to their achievements, an ode to the beauties and values which are rare to be found in other parts of our beautiful Serbia…
