The village of prophets – Kremna
The secret beauty between the mountains of Tara, Zlatibor and Šargan, the place where the air currants provide a bath and a rest to the tired people, the colourful garden in which everything glitters and quivers – that is the village of Kremna, the most miraculous and challenging village of Seerbia. In the heart of spacious meadows and pine trees, the spectrum of colours, in the harmony of landscapes and colours, in the gurgle of clean mountain waters.
The village is located at the ideal altitude to be an air spa (800 m), surrounded by pine forests which do not allow the fog to come near. It is said that the area of the miraculous stone on which the village lies can’t be recorded not even from a satellite or a plane. This is the place for healthy and long life, which always produced clever and gifted people.
The village is famous everywhere by the two exceptionally gifted, clairvoyant people: the prophets Miloš and Mitar Tarabić, who used to make prophecies in the 19th century which can apply to the time we live in. They incorporated the village and the prophecy into our national heritage. By using inexplicable folk mystique they made it stay alive for centuries, bringing hope into the lives, attracting all generations now and them. Following the traces of that never-ending curiosity of the people about the messages of the Kremna prophecy, in the hamlet of Tarabici below the mountain of Tara The Memorial House of the prophets of Kremna was built, the place which serves as the pilgrimage hundreds and thousands of curious tourists. There used to be the so called “cosmic ball”, and there are still a lot of relics. The Memorial House, made of wood and in ethno style, is a new challenge for tourist groups and chance visitors.
Of course, tourists do not come to Kremna only because of the prophecy. There are more and more of those who want to spend days enjoying the beauties of the village, the blessings of the nature, the hospitality of the hosts. The story goes that even the Nemanjic family had their holiday houses and stayed there during the summer and that the Turkish masters (agas and beys) took pleasure in coming to the middle of the field of Kremna. Another story tells of how the tourists had been attracted to Kremna before they discovered Zlatibor and that it used to be the main tourist resort of western Serbia till the 20th century. Nowadays this tradition has been revived. A lot of people from Kremna have decided to be engaged in village tourism and they have been doing this with great success. The buildings for accommodation are nicely furnished and the gardens are lovely, the food is delicious, their care for the guests is true, and the facilities are numerous. Whatever the people from this area devote themselves to, is predestines to be successful. Such is the case with the village tourism as well.
Here the aim is to please the guests, to prepare the dishes they like. Each housewife offers hot “gibanica” (dish made of cheese and strips of dough), maize bread, smoked ham, cooked dishes made in earthenware with exquisite flavour, roast pork or lamb, home-made raspberry juices, all kinds of cakes, the food which will satisfy the taste of both the old and the young. It is real abundance of scenes and aromas. Thus the housewives prepare the food for their guests who come here on holiday from all parts of the world, as far as India.
The miracle of Kremna will be even more powerful when the narrow-gauge railway, the so called “Ćira” is reconstructed, which is planned to be done soon. Then, the railway, which currently goes only through the hamlet Šargan Vitasi will go through the whole village. And among the interesting destinations these are certainly worth mentioning: Rajcevina, which is a paradise on earth, St. Sava’a footprints, the springs of Marica water, the ancient, Moljkovica temple and a lot of others. In the vicinity, some 10 km from Uzice, downstream along the river Djetinja, there is the rebuilt monastery of Rujan, in which the printed book in Serbia originated in the 16th century – the famous Rujan four-part Gospel. From here there is a wonderful view on the artificial lake, the accumulation Vrutci, which provides potable water for the city of Uzice and the surrounding area.
And if a tourist who has come to Kremna wants to visit the mountain of Tara, which is already a famous tourist centre, he needn’t stay at some of the hotels of this mountain beauty. He can find accommodation there in perfectly furnished private households. Here, at Kaluđerske bare, amidst the fragrant conifers and genuine conditions for complete rest, there is a series of such buildings of the first category:with comfortable rooms, fire places inside the rooms or central heating, summer gardens and built barbecues… The food, however, is not included in the offer. And the natural rarities of this mountain beauty have already been heard of everywhere: the unique Pancic spruce, the vast forest areas and rare species of plants, attractive viewpoints, medieval monastery of Raca, the canyon of the river Drina, the riches of wild animals among which are bears and chamois, the shortest river which is only 365 m long and a series of other resources.
