Churches
Mokra Gora is one of the rare villages that have two churches in their scope. One of them is in the part of the village called Kršanje, and the other one is in the village green. The Turks had demolished the former one three times, and the people of Mokra Gora had been restoring it, last time in 1892. According to the saga, the Church of Holy Ascension was built at the end of XVII century, before the great migration of Serbs, in one hidden place near the river Beli Rzav. With both sides it was surrounded by high cliffs. Simple architecture, one nave with semi-circular arch of calcium carbonate deposits, with rectangular base, the church in Kršenje belongs to the group of small village churches. There is a valuable iconostasis, made in 1849 and the icon of Jesus Christ on the throne and the other one of The Virgin Mary with Jesus, both painted in the same year.
The church of the Holy Elias The Prophet in the village green was erected in 1945, made as a copy of Kršanj church, with the only difference that it is made of wood, and not stone. Made of wood, with its nice churchyard and parish hall, this church perfectly fits into the ambient values of this village.
Both church buildings are valuable monuments of local history that depicts the spirit of local community and cultural identity of Mokra Gora.
